ACTIVE SURFACES® is a line of ceramic porcelains that have been developed by the Iris Ceramica Group, a leader in the production of high-quality and innovative materials for architecture and design. The Iris Ceramica Group has been researching and experimenting with new technologies and solutions to create products that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also beneficial for the health and wellbeing of people and the environment.

One of these technologies is Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™, which uses titanium dioxide (TiO2), a natural substance that is activated by light and humidity. When TiO2 comes into contact with light and water molecules, it produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) that have a powerful oxidizing effect. These ROS can break down harmful substances, such as pollutants, bacteria, viruses, molds, and odors, and transform them into harmless substances, such as water and carbon dioxide.

This means that ACTIVE SURFACES® can effectively purify the air by reducing smog levels and improving air quality; eliminate 99% of bacteria and viruses, including Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, from surfaces and the surrounding air; remove bad odors by decomposing organic molecules that cause them; and reduce the need for cleaning by making surfaces easier to wash and less prone to dirt accumulation.
